Artist Note: This mother bear is taking her family of two on a warm summer stroll along the shallows of the Tahquamenon River. Baby bears typically stay two years with their mothers. The first year is spent teaching the babies how to survive. At the beginning of the second year the cubs are called yearlings. Although they spend another summer with the sow, they will find themselves on their own by the end of the fall. “Between the Falls” is the second in a series of paintings done to portray the spirit and beauty of Tahquamenon Park. The background depicted in this painting can be viewed from the hike connecting the Lower Falls to the Upper Falls.
